Reality Bites - A Vampyre Perspective

Few things can bring home the facts to any self-identified Vampyre like the hunger. Nothing else can bring that reassurance that “I am not imagining this” like the symptoms we experience from missing a feed. Few things can reassure me like the body aches and pains, fatigue, and lack of coordination – that this is real.
One day you’re cheerful, healthy, active. Everything feels fine. Then suddenly, out of the blue – though not entirely unexpected – you begin to feel a familiar nasty chill in your soul. You begin to dwell on things that bring you down, past relationships, conflict at work, things which normally don’t bother you. At first it’s easy to put these things out of your mind, but as the week passes it becomes harder. You begin to tire more easily, more physical fatigue than mental at first, but before too long, you lack the motivation to do anything. Your thoughts become dark and your obsession turns to feeding – whether that be blood or energy...

Dark Knight Rising: GetFanged Interviews The Villain Avian Symphony Frontman Denyss McKnight

Combining elements of thrash, hardcore and electronica, Vancouver’s glitch metal progenitors The Villain Avian Symphony(The VAS) emerged out of past and present acts on the west coast. Coming out of the studio and onto the stage was the first step to realizing their vision and they show no sign of slowing down. The VAS returned to the studio to record their debut EP in the summer of 2011 and subsequently kept playing to promote their unique brand of aggressive music. Armed with a dual front-man attack, intimidating musicianship, schizophrenic electronic work and intense live visuals, The VAS is ready to give something new to the punk and metal community. GetFanged sits down with frontman Denyss McKnight to bring you the scoop.

Life is Worth Surviving: Aponia's Greg Moorman on Real Life and Real Music

Aponia, from Hollywood, CA is an alternative rock band inspired by the growing pains and emotional turbulence we all face. Fronted by Greg Moorman, Aponia tells "a story about being true to yourself." Touching on such topics as failed relationships and broken families - "Aponia is nothing short of a cathartic experience. Their intensely personal lyrics enable the listener to feel the emotions while releasing the toxicity of them to promote the healing sensation we all crave."

GetFanged Interviews "Family of Dog" Author Jake Bannerman

Born and raised in the church, J.S. Bannerman has taken the dangerous stance to question events that have been spoon fed to him as the truth since his childhood. He continually pushes boundaries as a purveyor of terror and often strives to find that disquietude that exists inside each one of us.

He is a nomad, calling no one place home; choosing the life of a traveler while on the mission of writing the Family of Dog series. As a result you may find him in your town, writing at your local pub, crafting tales of horror so terrifyingly depraved and heartbreakingly cruel that you would never believe that they come from a mind as normal as his. Just beware, because within each tale is a message; it’s just up to you to figure out what it means.

Death Becomes Him: A Look Into the Visionary Mind of Steven Juliano and Requiem for the Dead

You've said that the concept of the album has been with you since your time with IAG, and that it acts as a prequel to the tale told in "Lover's Requiem". When and how did this part of their story (Always and Forever) come to you? What was/is the inspiration behind the two lovers? How did the story evolve?

After I Am Ghost came out with Lovers' Requiem on Epitaph Records, I always wanted to do a prequel to the story.  It kinda sat around in the back of my head for awhile after that, but in all honestly, I didn't feel my band at that time wanted to try and do another concept album. I was probably the lowest in confidence around that time writing our second album, because, I was torn between "should I write a theatrical album again?" or "Should I write straight up songs about my life at that moment?" I tried to combine both, really, and I think it came out pretty damn good. Yes, it wasn't a "Lovers' Requiem" per say, and we were all fine with that. We had to try something different, I guess. The second album we did on Epitaph never compared to the impact Lovers' Requiem did. The fans def let me know it, that's for sure. And I agreed with them in small ways. After that, the prequel idea kept coming into play with my writing of new songs, and I knew my band was gonna hate it. I just knew. So, I left. I started Requiem for the Dead a few weeks after I quit I Am Ghost to try and see what else I could muster in my head.
