GetFanged Special Feature: Vampire Wedding

What is Vampire Wedding?

Vampire Wedding is a six issue comic mini series that's going to be published bi monthly from November 2011 on, in a limited print run as well as a free digital edition. THE SEXIEST VAMPIRE COMIC MINI SERIES AND ROMANTIC HORROR COMEDY FILM OF THE YEAR is the story of Sophia Heartfield, a 20 year old American law student now living in Cambridge, UK and working as a wedding planner in order to pay the bills. What is the average girls dream job soon turns into a nightmare for Sophia, who is all of a sudden faced with organizing the wedding of silent movie star turned vampire queen Angelyne Argyle, who plots to take over the world by turning thousands of wedding guests, among them influential politicians and bankers, at her own wedding into vampire disciples.

Who are we?

London based film and media production company Castalides Pictures, owned by Robert Huttinger and Francesca Lombardo, produces the VAMPIRE WEDDING comic mini series and feature film.

The characters and story of Vampire Wedding were conceived by Robert Huttinger. Robert lives and works in London and Los Angeles. Among the latest projects he co-authored is a motion picture called 'Kiss the Frog', a romantic comedy in pre-production, produced by Groundswell Films and Rendezvous Films. A-list star Katie Holmes is signed for the female lead role.

Vampire Wedding's comic pages are penciled, inked and colored by Eduardo Baretto, a comic artist legend from Montevideo, Uruguay, who mainly worked for Marvel and DC. His body of work includes calibers like Superman, Batman, Star Wars, Marvel Knights, Aliens vs. Predators and Indiana Jones.

The cover art for the first magazine was created by Franke, a brilliant illustrator and artist from Vienna, who works for production companies all over the world and specializes in production design and concept art.

How did Vampire Wedding begin?

Robert started drafting the outline for Vampire Wedding in late 2007 and finalized a first draft of the script early in 2008, a good while before the Twilight series showed up as the new kid on the 'vampire block'. We shopped the script around at the American Film Market and at the Marche du Film in Cannes for a number of years, but despite the global success of big budgeted vampire themed studio productions and by utilizing the excuse of the global recession at that time, it was passed on numerous times by international sales agents who remained blind to the fact that a fan base was already building up offline. In early 2011 the decision to turn Vampire Wedding into a comic mini series was made, in order to finally deliver the project to its audience, utilizing a low risk budget. Soon after finding the right artists and the launch of pre-production, the decision was made to give Vampire Wedding some exposure online, which turned out to be a huge success almost over night. Within a few weeks thousands of people were inquiring about where and when the comic would be available, backing our feeling, that Vampire Wedding always was meant to become a global phenomena. After we saw how impressively fast our fanbase grew, the decision to pick up the phone book and proceed to work on turning Vampire Wedding into a medium budget film once again was an easy one.

What great things are to be expected from Vampire Wedding?

The recent launch of Vampire Wedding's international casting campaign for vampire extras at the London Comic Con 2011 turned out to be quite a success, with thousands of interested visitors asking about how they can enter the competition. Interestingly, we are receiving a lot of headshots from applicants, who must have recognized that they do resemble certain characters from the comic. That gave us the idea to launch an official casting campaign for all speaking roles in the film. Aspiring as well as professional actors from all over the world will have the same chance to enter and win the competition while they apply for playing any of the main speaking roles in the film. What's new is, that the auditions will be dealt with just online, applicants first pick the character they want to audition for, then they'll receive a scene from the script which they'll have to act out in front of either a video camera, their web cam or even their mobile phone camera, after which they'll upload the videos to the Vampire Wedding audition website. Not only can users vote on performances, but the top actors will be shortlisted and invited for a final audition in front of the director and the producers of the film, potentially giving every single human being on the planet a chance to be the star in a feature film. It is currently planned to start principal photography early next year, ideally with a quick wrap for a release around Halloween 2012.
